## Overview

The Section Display widget shows a selected section from a Labii record directly on a dashboard. It is useful when teams need constant visibility into section-based content such as storage maps, equipment schedules, operational boards, or other structured record sections. Instead of opening the record each time, users can review the selected section from the dashboard and then open the record detail view when deeper interaction is needed.

## Use Cases

* **Storage Monitoring**: Display a storage-related section so users can quickly review locations from the dashboard.
* **Equipment Scheduling**: Surface an equipment schedule section for shared visibility across the team.
* **Operational Status Boards**: Show a section that tracks readiness, assignments, or workflow state.
* **Reference Visibility**: Keep a frequently reviewed section visible on a dashboard used by a lab group or operations team.
* **Quick Navigation**: Let users jump from the dashboard to the record detail view for follow-up work.

## Configuration

### Initial Setup

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Open the dashboard where you want to place the widget.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Add Widget** and select **Section Display** from the dashboard widgets catalog.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **Edit** in the widget to configure the source content.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select the target record and the section you want to display, then save the widget.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Required Settings

* **Record**: Select the source record that contains the section you want to show on the dashboard.
* **Section**: Select the section from the chosen record.

### Optional Settings

* **Dashboard Placement**: Position the widget where the displayed section is easiest to monitor alongside related dashboard widgets.
* **Widget Size**: Resize the widget as needed to fit the content shown in the selected section.

{% hint style="info" %}
Choose sections that remain readable in a dashboard layout. Large or highly interactive sections may be easier to review from the source record detail view.
{% endhint %}

## Readonly View

Dashboard widgets display information in a read-only dashboard context.

### Display Features

* **Section Content**: Shows the selected section from the configured record.
* **Context Visibility**: Keeps important record content visible without opening the record first.
* **Dashboard Placement**: Lets users monitor the section together with reports, activity feeds, or shortcut widgets.
* **Navigation Option**: Provides a **View detail** action to open the source record for deeper review.

### Interactive Features

* **Edit**: Reopen widget settings to change the selected record or section.
* **View detail**: Open the source record detail view to inspect or update the original content.

{% hint style="info" %}
This widget is best suited for reviewing section content from the dashboard. Editing continues in the source record after opening the detail view.
{% endhint %}

## Additional Functions

### Dashboard Monitoring

Use this widget to keep record sections visible on dashboards that support daily coordination or periodic review.

* **Shared Dashboards**: Surface a common section for teams that rely on the same operational view.
* **Role-Based Dashboards**: Show different sections on dashboards tailored for managers, operators, or reviewers.
* **At-a-Glance Review**: Reduce navigation when the main need is to check the current section content quickly.

### Navigation Support

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Review the displayed section from the dashboard.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click **View detail** when you need full record context or editing access.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Update the source record as needed, then return to the dashboard.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Best Practices

* Use sections that communicate important information clearly in a compact dashboard area.
* Pair this widget with report or activity widgets when teams need both summary metrics and source content in one place.
* Keep the source record maintained so the dashboard always reflects current information.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If the selected record or section changes substantially over time, verify that the widget is still pointing to the intended content for the dashboard audience.
{% endhint %}
