Streamlining mouse colony tracking for research laboratories

Overview

Labii’s Mouse Colony Management system provides an efficient way to track and manage mouse colonies for research purposes. It includes four interconnected tables: Mouseline, Mice, Mating, and Litter, along with a Storage Management System for managing cages.

Tables Overview

1. Mouseline

   1. Purpose: Organize and manage different mouse lines.

   2. Features:

      1. Displays statistics, such as:

         1. Number of active mice.

         2. Number of active matings.

         3. Number of active litters.

      2. Provides quick access to associated data:

         1. List of mice, matings, and litters (via the side menu of a mouseline).

2. Mice

   1. Purpose: Track details of individual mice.

   2. Features:

      1. Includes a Mating Section to display all matings involving a specific mouse.

      2. Displays the Lineage of a mouse, accessible by clicking the “Mice Lineage” option from the side menu.

3. Mating

   1. Purpose: Manage breeding processes and pairings.

   2. Features:

      1. Displays breeder details and associated litter information.

      2. Allows selection of multiple mice as breeders when creating a new mating record.

4. Litter

   1. Purpose: Track litters resulting from matings.

   2. Features:

      1. Automatically calculates the generation of the litter.

      2. Includes a Create Mice button to batch-create mouse records directly from the litter, based on the litter size.

Adding New Records

Adding records in the Mouse Colony Management system follows Labii’s standard method for adding records. You can add records in the following ways:

From the Side Menu

Navigate to the desired table (e.g., Mouseline, Mice, Mating, or Litter) and click Add New Record from the side menu.

From a Section

In the detail view of a related record (e.g., a mouseline or mating), use the Add New Record option in the relevant section to quickly link new records.

Batch Creation of Mice

To add multiple mice from a litter:

1. Navigate to the Litter Table.

2. Use the Create Mice button.

3. Specify the litter size to generate the corresponding number of mouse records automatically.

Detailed Features by Table

Mouseline

• View statistics and access associated data directly from the mouseline detail page.

• Use the side menu to quickly navigate to:

  • Active mice.

  • Matings associated with the mouseline.

  • Litters under the mouseline.

Mice

• Mating Section: Shows all matings involving the specific mouse.

• Lineage Tracking: View the lineage of a mouse by selecting the Mice Lineage option in the side menu.

Mating

• In the detail view of a mating:

  • View breeder information.

  • Access litter details associated with the mating.

• When creating a mating record, you can select multiple mice as breeders.

Litter

• Generation Calculation: Automatically calculates the generation based on parent information.

• Batch Mice Creation: Quickly create multiple mouse records using the Create Mice button, with the litter size determining the number of new mouse records.

Cage Management

The Storage Management System is integrated to track and manage cages used within the colony. You can organize and assign cages to individual mice, litters, or matings for efficient space management.
