Chemical Inventory

Overview

Chemical Inventory in Labii provides a connected record for each chemical and its physical stock. Use it to identify chemicals, maintain molecular and safety information, attach safety data sheets, and track each chemical through batches and containers in inventory.

The application includes Chemicals (chemical), Batches (core_batch), Containers (core_container), Storage (core_storage), and Consumption (core_consumption). This structure separates information about a chemical from the batches and individual containers that hold it.

Capabilities

Chemical Identification

  • Assign each chemical a unique Labii record and QR code.
  • Record synonyms, CAS Registry Numbers, molecular formulas, molecular weights, and chemical structures.
  • Generate chemical information from the chemical name and correct the results manually when needed.
  • View or edit the molecular structure in the Molecular Structure section.

Safety Information

  • Record hazard statements, precautions, hazard categories, and GHS information.
  • Upload supporting files in Safety Data Sheet.

Stock Tracking

  • Track separate purchased or prepared batches of a chemical.
  • Create containers for each batch and record quantities, units, expiration dates, and storage locations.
  • Review available and consumed containers, remaining quantities, and consumption history.

Getting Started

Install Chemical Inventory from Add from a template.

Confirm that the application includes Chemicals, Batches, Containers, Storage, and Consumption.

Review application and table permissions for the people who will register chemicals, receive stock, manage storage, or record consumption.

Define consistent naming and units before adding chemicals so duplicate records and incompatible stock totals are easier to avoid.

Register a Chemical

Open Chemicals and add a record. Enter a specific chemical name that the generation actions can use to identify the substance.

In Chemical Information, use the available actions as needed:

  • Generate Synonyms
  • Generate CAS
  • Generate Formula
  • Generate MW
  • Generate SMILES

Review the returned synonyms and identifiers. Remove irrelevant alternatives and correct any value when the chemical name is nonstandard or the result does not identify the intended substance.

Open Molecular Structure to review or edit the structure in Ketcher.

Save the chemical record and confirm that its chemical information and QR code are available in the record detail.

Add Safety Information

In Safety Information, enter the applicable hazard statements, precautions, and hazard category.

Add the applicable GHS image to communicate the chemical's hazard classification.

Open Safety Data Sheet and upload the current SDS and any supporting safety files.

Review the safety information whenever the chemical record or SDS is updated.

Track Batches and Containers

Use batches to distinguish separate purchases or preparations of the same chemical. Use containers to represent the physical bottles, vials, or other stock items from a batch.

Create a batch for the chemical and record its origin, vendor lot number when applicable, batch or receiving date, and expiration date.

Attach available quality documents and review information when they apply to the batch.

On the batch, use Add containers to create the physical stock containers.

For each container, record the container type, initial quantity, unit, preparation or receiving date, expiration date, and storage location.

When the chemical is used, add a consumption record for the source container. Review the container's remaining quantity and the chemical's Consumption History to confirm that usage is traceable.
